Default New PvP Arena

Right, cause of all the QQing and drama about RA, i had a little brain spark

make a new arena, that's practically costume brawl

lets players decide builds (like with henchmen) that are all preset each week/month...

when you enter arena and randomly get 1 of the bars, so that each team always gets 1 "healer" and 3/5/7 other characters, depending on how you want to work party sizes.

don't offer titles, but you can get strongboxes for consecutive wins or something to reward you for playing (because face it, without a reward, there is no motivation to play)

basic idea, but it can be easily worked on/stuff added to it

there's already tonnes of maps etc.

edit: could be community controlled to ease pressure on anet or summat like guru cup :3

just a thought

it'll get old quick with the same team setup every time. that would be like forcing teams to play the exact same bars in HA or GvG for both teams. I like where you are going with it, but ArenaNet would say that your idea, "needs more iteration". It has potential though.

You could do a few random team setups, but then a few would be considered weak and you would have players quitting once they saw what the healer was running if it was inferior to the other builds that were available.

like I said before though, you are on to something, but it's just not where it needs to be yet.

i think you missed the idea

you get preset bars that the community decide they want... so they can come form players that have played the game for 2 weeks, to players that have played 6 years + beta & alpha etc.

you then get a random bar, regardless of your profession, and you get turned into a "hero" like in costume brawl, so for example, i could log on as my warrior, and become mhenlo and be the monk for my team.

Even if you wanted to make it trully random, you're team gets split up the next game, but you are guaranteed to get a healer every round

from a personal experience i know it would take a fair bit of coding, but most of the stuff is already there (costume brawl, ra/ta/gvg/ha maps, community that want a "fun" pvp arena)

The main reason why costume brawl is so desirable is due to it's limitted availability. Having a year round, almost identical format will make it lose it's appeal and people will get bored of it, eventually.

P.S. having the community decide the builds will be a horrible mistake.

I agree that having the community decide bars is a bad idea. However, the rest of the idea is pretty good. A costume brawl with weekly bar changes would keep the format from getting old. It wouldn't really be a big strain on resources since weekly rotations means that not much thought needs to be put into the builds (plus, after awhile, previous builds can be recycled). No titles but with strong boxes is also a good idea. Only change to your idea that I would make is eliminating the randomness of profession changes. I think that if you enter the arena as a warrior, you should get the warrior bar, and if you enter the arena as a monk, you should get the monk bar (similar to how costume brawl actually works).

with some minor tweaks, /signed

Seriously worried about this. See: Codex Arena.

However , i guess people are also bored of the formats we have at the moment , coupled with metas, where the only aim is to spam skills on target till it dies...

Pretty sure some format like costume brawl instead of RA would be more enjoyed , considering it wouldn't have the biggest flaw of RA , which is losing 95% of time against healer with no healer...

/signed , but that's what i've been suggesting for year now , so i doubt they will do something ....

the idea of making it random classes was to try and stop the effectiveness of people syncing in teams. where the bars would be "OP"

but as i said, it's just an idea, and the chances of it being implemented are 0 to none :P

i love CB too. I see what you mean OP about the "random" bars. That still doesn't change the fact that there would only be so many and players would quit once they saw that their healer wasn't playing the "best" of the community designed healer bars.

a little more iteration and you are onto something though

Now in all fairness codex suffers from problems that sealed deck format (upon which it was based) does not. Particularly that in sealed deck a skill can be brought once per time that it was randomly rolled, while a skill in codex can be brought 4 times if it is rolled once (look at confounds such as bonetti's, protector's, or any other skill that is particularly powerful when all 4 characters can bring it).

Not to say that I don't agree. While I would have loved to see the actual sealed deck format introduced instead of this codex, I do believe that a sealed deck arena would have been plagued by the same sudden loss of players. Part of the reason that sealed deck seemed to work so well was that it was not 4v4, but instead brought into GvG which is much more satisfying format.

if its community decided... the builds are already like that.

RA builds : insert 4 meta builds here :

as far as playing a random profession: well i don't monk because i'm bad at it. why would you force me to do something i don't want to do?

and the games would be long and boring, both teams would have a monk, esurge, bsurge, and devhammer

I would definitely play. However, you could get a profession that you won't like. SO, you should be able to choose your profession but, each team, must have one Monk.

Yes, well the "community" tends to pick things that the "community" doesn't like.
Reason being is that most people don't care until the change happens, then they realize they didn't want it and start complaining about how they weren't listened to (even though they never spoke up)

Reason is that the community is like 90% PvE'rs and 10% PvP'ers ( and even , i think i'm still overestimating...)... Most changes concerning PvP aren't discussed by PvE'rs and a few part of PvP'ers because they don't care, unless there's a better reward there....

If you don't believe me, consider this example : Introducing back TA compared to introducing a new costume....

Obviously, we should get more attention about TA, however.....

how bout letting players pick their own bars and professions but after every match just switch up the teams? would be like costume brawl was this past year... i think this would also alleviate some of they syncing

It's been said and agreed by 90% of players ( rest being syncers) since they implemented codex ( which was described as costume brawl though...)... We're still waiting them to decide to finally do the best instead of implementing mickey mouse skill updates

You could make it where each class has to have 3 saved builds to "upload" and each build can't have the same skills on them and when you enter in you randomly get 1 of the 3 builds for each person and you can elimate RA and make a new team arena with randomness x2
